Caryn Harris
Pastels and Watercolors

My paintings are metaphors, symbols for moments in my life. Though my work is autobiographical, my hope is that the there is a classic universality to them which is able to move the hearts of others to views of hope, redemption, and peace. —Caryn Harris

Caryn Harris received her B.F.A. from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts). Her interest in western art history led her on an extensive tour of the treasures of Europe where she was able to study some of the Italian Renaissance drawings archived in the Cabinet des Designs at the Louvre. She spent sixteen years homeschooling her four children and has, in recent years, been able to start working again in her studio. She loves working in soft pastels and in a Signature Member of the Pastel Painters of Maine. Caryn served as Dean of Academics during 2006-08, and developed and taught the K-12 art curriculum for the Maine Classical Christian School in Freeport, Maine. She has also taught Beginning Watercolor and Beginning Drawing for Adult Education in Lisbon, Maine. She lives in Cumberland, Maine.
